The role


The role exists to support the Packhorse Manager in delivering efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality services within the Packhorse outlet. It involves ensuring that standard operating procedures are consistently followed, staff are well-trained, and customer service is delivered to an excellent standard. The post holder will help manage day-to-day operations, including bar and catering activities, ensuring that all services run smoothly, safely, and in compliance with health, safety, food safety, and licensing legislation.


The position supports the Union’s strategic and commercial objectives by contributing to effective operational planning, risk management, and financial performance. This includes helping to achieve key performance targets, managing stock efficiently to minimize waste, and planning staffing levels in line with business demands. The role also plays an active part in supporting staff wellbeing, training, and development to maintain strong communication, motivation, and performance within the team.


In addition to operational responsibilities, the role promotes sustainability, equality, and diversity, ensuring that all activities are inclusive and environmentally responsible. It requires adherence to data protection regulations and support for Union campaigns that enhance student experience and sustainable performance. Overall, the role is key in maintaining a safe, compliant, and welcoming environment that reflects the Union’s values and delivers an excellent experience for all customers.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Grade and salary range: Grade 4, £28,568 - £31,889. Salary is subject to RHSU’s Pay & Reward Policy, which includes an opportunity for annual pay progression. Candidates are usually expected to start on the lower end of the salary bracket.

Work Location: Hybrid Working Policy in place with guiding principle of 60% office based (role dependent)
